WANDERTALES

A Bouquet Of Kindness

September 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Once upon a time, there was a teacher nicknamed Ms Chio, who had very challenging but lovable students. Ms Chio enjoyed teaching but she was neither adept at cracking hilarious jokes consistently, nor tolerant of constant mischief. So, she was not exactly a celebrity in the school’s Assembly Hall of Fame.

Although there were turbulent times, the heartaches would very soon disappear whenever her charges did her proud. But one day, she had to make a choice and decided to quit, with mixed feelings. However, it seemed to be the best for everyone.

Years passed and Ms Chio was now busy preparing for a transaction and needed some stationery. She could not find them in the neighborhood and reluctantly made a trip to a bookstore some distance away. Little did she know that she would meet one of her former students at the cashier counter there.

“Are you from XYZ school?” she asked the young lady behind the counter, pleasantly surprised.

“Yes,” came the reply and a pretty shy smile.

That was it. No screams of joy or dramatic displays of emotion. They exchanged thanks, and Ms Chio went on her way absentmindedly.

Back at work, Ms Chio was tidying up the accounts. Suddenly, she noticed something that touched her heart – that young lady had quietly given her a discount using her staff account.

Every now and then, a bouquet of unspoken kindness would spring up unexpectedly and make it all worthwhile again.

“And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary.” – Galatians 6:9
